Quintessential inflation
The quintessential inflationary paradigm makes use of a single scalar field with a runway potential to provide a unified description of inflation and dark energy and a kinetic dominated stage preceding the standard hot big bang era. The change of sign of the scalar curvature during kinetic domination can have interesting phenomenological consequences in the presence of spectator fields non-minimally coupled to gravity.
